Additional Treatment Option for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Aquablation treatment for BPH - Prostate Enlargement
Aquablation treatment for BPH – Prostate Enlargement

Aquablation is a next-generation, minimally invasive surgical therapy performed at Saint John’s Health Center that utilizes the AquaBeam® robotic system for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Aquablation therapy provides long-lasting symptom relief with low rates of complications, regardless of prostate size or shape. It is the only BPH procedure that allows the surgeon to see the entire prostate during treatment.

After 4 clinical studies and 425 patients, Aquablation Therapy has been proven to be safe and effective.

With Aquablation, we no longer need to compromise for either the longevity of the procedure or the fact that patients will have negative sexual outcomes after surgery… in one to two weeks after the procedure, patients will be back to their baseline.

Aqaublation-Robotic Surgical Therapy

Aquablation is the only image-guided, heat-free, automated robotic therapy system for enlarged prostate (BPH). It combines intraoperative ultrasound imaging with cystoscopy visualization to provide a complete 3D view of the treatment area. The surgeon uses specialized software to map the treatment area by identifying which portion of the tissue to preserve and what to remove. When ready, the robot precisely executes the waterjet treatment according to the physician’s plan. After the additional tissue is treated, it is removed by the doctor, clearing the urethra channel. Aquablation therapy takes about an hour under general anesthesia and requires an overnight stay.

What is Aquablation for BPH (Enlarged Prostate)? Dr. Mehran Movassaghi explains the procedure.

Using the map, we can destroy the tissue that needs to be destroyed without affecting any important tissues that are responsible for continence, or sexual function.

ABOUT The AQUABEAM® ROBOTIC SYSTEM

The AQUABEAM® ROBOTIC SYSTEM
The AQUABEAM® ROBOTIC SYSTEM

The AquaBeam Robotic system by Procept BioRobotics is an advanced, image-guided, surgical robotic system that combines real-time, multidimensional imaging, personalized treatment planning, automated robotics and heat-free waterjet ablation for precise and rapid removal of excess prostate tissue.

The AquaBeam Robotic System provides a minimally invasive approach to BPH that addresses the compromise between safety and efficacy that alternative methods may offer. It is performed in the operating room while the patient is under general anesthesia.

What is Real-Time, Multidimensional Imaging?
Aquablation therapy is unique in that it combines cystoscopic visualization, ultrasound imaging, and advanced planning software to provide the surgeon with a multidimensional view of the treatment area. This gives the surgeon greater information to personalize the treatment plan for each patient, and improves decision-making, and real-time monitoring during the procedure.
