Upon obtaining his M.D. from UCLA, Dr. Allen completed an internship in Internal Medicine and then practiced as a general practitioner for two years in the National Health Service Corps in underserved communities in Kansas and California before turning to Pathology. He did his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center followed by a fellowship in Oncologic Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. He has since been a general surgical pathologist at several hospitals in southern California including Providence Saint Joseph in Burbank where he served as Medical Director of the laboratory prior to joining Providence Saint John’s in 2003.
His special interests include Gastrointestinal and Urologic pathology, but his over 35 years of experience give him a broad depth of knowledge in other areas that are essential for the many roles required in a small hospital group setting. He relishes learning and loves the fact that in pathology, almost every day one sees something new and unusual. He values his early clinical background which allows him to better understand the demands of clinicians in patient care.
When not behind his microscope, he can be found hiking the Santa Monica mountains with his wife and dogs, bicycling, reading or gardening.
