The McAlister Family Foundation
When you visit the third floor of the Providence Saint John’s Health Center, the Howard Keck Center, you enter a word devoted to healthcare needs of women and their newborns. These services have long been supported by two generations of the McAlister family, and a plaque honoring Hobart and Soni McAlister acknowledges their many generous contributions.
“My parents’ association with Saint John’s Health Center began in 1963, when they developed a relationship with Blake Watson, M.D., who delivered me. They both served as Foundation trustees, and began giving to the Health Center in the 1960’s,” recounted Patrick McAlister. “Funds were originally provided for labor and delivery, and then later for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.”
The McAlister Family Foundation, led by Patrick McAlister, son of Hobart and Soni McAlister continued his parents devotion to supporting Saint John’s by providing funding to the Saint John’s Cancer Institute Saint John’s Health Center in the 1990’s. Their early gifts supported melanoma vaccine research, followed by support initiated in 2003 for the Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program. Their charitable gift has helped fund the education for the next generation of surgical oncologists.
