Rebecca Crane-Okada, PhD, RN, CNS, AOCN, is an advanced oncology certified nurse with over 40 years in cancer care. She is also trained as a Reiki Master, a spiritual director, and as a Capacitar facilitator. Dr. Crane-Okada has presented and published on many aspects of breast cancer care to public and professional audiences, covering such topics as self-care, peer support, quality of life, integration of mindfulness and dance/movement therapy, and patient navigation. In 2007 she was named the Oncology Nursing Society recipient of the prestigious Mara Mogensen Flaherty Memorial Lectureship, recognizing her for leadership in the psychological and spiritual aspects of cancer care. At Providence Saint John’s Health Center she manages the Willow Sage Wellness patient support programs of the Margie Petersen Breast Center, such as nutrition, yoga, mindfulness, HeartMath, and other stress reduction modalities. She was most recently funded for a study of mindful movement effects on immune function in breast cancer survivors. Special clinical project funding has been awarded for 2 projects to support cancer patient education and the provision of ‘resilience kits’ for self-calm in hospitalized patients experiencing restlessness, insomnia, or anxiety.
