Award-winning Care

Providence Saint John’s Health Center was built on a tradition of providing leading-edge, award-winning care in a compassionate, community hospital setting. I am honored to share that this commitment to excellence has continued in our 80-year as our health center received several prestigious awards from Healthgrades. The organization’s annual evaluation assesses hospital performance and patient outcomes at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

This year, Saint John’s was named of Healthgrades, America’s 250 Hospitals, America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Surgical Care, and among the 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement, placing our hospital among the top 5% in the nation for both surgical care and joint replacement. These honors were in addition to Providence Saint John’s receiving the Surgical Care Excellence Award and the Joint Replacement Excellence Award for the second year in a row.

In addition, Providence Saint John’s was awarded World’s Best Hospitals, 2024, by Newsweek, and Best Regional Hospitals in the Los Angeles Metro 2023-2024, by US News. Providence Saint John’s was also awarded the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, 2022-2023, which places our ministry among the top 10% in the nation for overall pulmonary services – a testament to the dedication and innovations of our caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthgrades also bestowed Five-Star Ratings on seven common treatments and procedures, which included: total knee replacement (two years in a row), total hip replacement (five years in a row), treatment of stroke (three years in a row), treatment of COPD, treatment of pneumonia, treatment of bowel obstruction (two years in a row) and treatment of sepsis (five years in a row). This means that Providence Saint John’s delivered statistically better clinical outcomes in these key specialty areas.

• Quality achievements demonstrate continued investments in technology and processes.
• Patients treated at hospitals receiving the Joint Replacement Excellence Award™ have, on average, a 63.5% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award
• COPD in hospitals with five stars for in-hospital mortality have, on average, an 89.5% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals with one star for in-house mortality
• If all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals like Saint John’s, on average, 201,586 lives could potentially have been saved, and 160,498 patients could have avoided potential complications
