Dr. Sia Bolourani was born in Tehran, Iran, and raised in Canada. He earned his BSc degree from the University of Toronto and completed both his undergraduate and graduate training in Computer Science, receiving an MSc degree. His interest in medicine led him to Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, IL, where he obtained his MD degree in 2016.
Following medical school, Dr. Bolourani completed his general surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center. During his residency, he took three years off for research, earning a PhD from the Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine, part of the Northwell Health system. His research focused on the intersection of RNA-sequencing and machine learning, where he discovered pathways amplified during lung fibrosis.
Dr. Bolourani has presented at numerous prestigious conferences and published in leading journals. His research interests include sequencing analysis, machine learning in outcomes research, and prediction modeling. His work has been featured in Nature Machine Intelligence, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Surgery, the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, and Frontiers in Immunology, among others.
